SHS 2016 Blots a Remarkable Start

Amidst the reservations for the Senior High School(SHS) Program Implementation from the public, the Department of Education (DepEd) stands firm for a positive response come June 13, the opening of classes.

It was indeed a good start for the SHS as it reached over 1 million Grade 11 enrollees nationwide. As of June 23, 2016, the total number of Grade 11 enrollees in Region 1 almost reached 80,000 for both Public and Private schools.

DepEd is expecting that this enrolment data will continue to increase as there are still a number of schools who have not yet uploaded their enrollees in the Learner Information System (LIS) and Enhanced Basic Education Information System (EBEIS). The LIS and EBEIS were established to have accurate and reliable registries of learners and schools online.

In one of her school monitoring region wide, DepEd Regional Director Alma Ruby C. Torio commended the principals, school heads and teachers for the successful turnout of the SHS opening. RD Torio also had the opportunity to interview some of the SHS students particularly those who enrolled under Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track, which has the most number of SHS enrolled.

DepEd’s EBEIS data in Region 1 as of June 23, 2016 revealed that the top academic tracks were TVL with 27,651 students enrolled; General Academic Strand (GAS) with 20,666, Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with 10,954; Accountancy, Business and Management(ABM) with 9,520; and Arts and Design with 159.

DepEd Region 1 officials will continue to monitor updates on SHS implementation particularly the on-going construction of SHS classrooms expected to be completed in August.
