Policies and Standards for Maritime Education

  1. The set of Policies and Standards, approved by this Office upon the recommendation of the deans and department heads of schools offering Maritime Education and the Bureau of Higher Education, embodies the general principle and guidelines for the establishment and operation of maritime courses. The standards have been set after a series of workshops and consultation meetings with institutions offering maritime courses, professional organizations and representatives of industry. The set of policies and standards are available at the Bureau of Higher Education.
  2. All schools offering 10 or 6-Month Basic Merchant Marine Course, two-year Associate in Marine Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation major in Nautical Studies and major in Maritime Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration and Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering are required to prepare and make the necessary adjustments of their programs and facilities based on the guidelines and standards.
  3. This Order supersedes all existing policies and standards related to maritime courses and will take effect beginning school year 1988-1989.
  4. Compliance with these policies and standards by all concerned is enjoined.
