Strengthening Respect and Allegiance to the Philippine Flag in all Schools

Cognizant of the significance of the national flag as a symbol of the country’s sovereignty and unity, the Department of Education is enjoining all schools, both public and private, and DepEd field offices to renew efforts to strengthen respect and allegiance to the Philippine Flag.

Accordingly, the following specific guidelines shall be adopted:

  1. The actual singing of the National Anthem during flag raising and retreat must not be replaced by canned music.
  2. No tattered or badly-faded flag should be allowed to fly in any school or office.
  3. Instructions on the proper display and use of the Philippine Flag, prohibited acts on the use of the Philippine Flag, and on the singing of the national anthem shall be observed in accordance with the provisions of R.A. No. 8491.

DepEd field offices are directed to monitor strict compliance with this Order and institute appropriate sanctions on erring institutions or personnel whenever violations are observed.
