Pursuant to the Basic Education Act of 2001 and DECS Order No. 57, s. 1995, as well as applicable rules and issuances, the DepEd shall firmly establish ownership of school sites occupied by public elementary and secondary schools nationwide, contribute to the further development and improvement of the public school system.

With the theme "Makapag-aral ay Karapatan Mo, Magpalista Ngayong Enero," this Department declares January 26, 2013 as the Early Registration Day for the School Year (SY) 2013-2014 in all public elementary and secondary schools to achieve universal participation and completion of the cycle.

The Schools Division Superintendents Examination, otherwise known as the Educational Management Test (EMT) shall be administered by the Department of Education (DepEd) every five years unless otherwise recommended by the DepEd Executive Committee due to existing vacancies. The date of examination shall be determined by the said Committee as per recommendation of the Board of Examiners and shall be announced in a separate Memorandum.

The Department of Education (DepEd) through the Health and Nutrition Center (HNC) relaunched the Breakfast Feeding Program (BFP) in School Year (SY) 2010-2011 to address the malnutrition problem and short-term hunger among public school children. This program was renamed School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) in order not to limit the feeding to breakfast only. This is to allow the school administrators to decide what time to conduct the feeding that will best address the nutritional needs of the learners.

The Department of Education (DepEd) recognizes the significant role of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) in producing remarkable and empowered women leaders through the realization of the ideals of womanhood and preparation for their responsibilities in the home, the nation, and the world community. In view of this, the DepEd promotes and espouses the revitalization of Girl Scouting in schools nationwide in various areas of potential partnership, cooperation, and collaboration. To revitalize Girl Scouting in all schools, the DepEd is issuing the guidelines enumerated in this Order.

Pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 10121, preparedness and mitigation are key strategies in reducing disaster risk. The Fourth Quarter Conduct of the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill aims to generate the highest level of awareness among the public on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) concerns and to assess the capacity level of the school and the community in the eventuality of disasters and emergencies.

To further strengthen the School-Based Management (SBM) practice and re-emphasize the centrality of the learners and the involvement of relevant community basic education service delivery, the Department of Education (DepEd) embarked on revisiting the SBM framework, assessment process and tool to improve on already recognized successful SBM practices across the regions.

To provide the field with learning resources (LRs) namely: teaching guides (TGs) and learners’ manuals (LMs) for Quarter 3 (Q3) and Quarter 4 (Q4) of the Grades 1 and 7 of the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum, the Department of Education (DepEd) is downloading funds for the reproduction of the said materials in accordance with the guidelines set in Enclosure No. 1 of this Order.

Pursuant to the Kindergarten Education Act, and in support to DepEd Order No. 32, s. 2012, its implementing rules and regulations specifically Rule V of Section 10 and Rule VII of Section 16.2, concerning the hiring and deployment of kindergarten teachers, the Department of Education (DepEd) in coordination with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) issues this policy guidelines in addition to the specific criteria in DepEd Order No. 12, s. 2012, entitled Revised Guidelines on the Hiring of Teacher I Positions Based on the Reform Actions in Basic Education Sector Reform Agenda (BESRA).
