Agusan del Sur National High School Wins Barkada Kontra Droga Regionals

Agusan del Sur National High School bested nine other schools divisions (SDs) in Caraga region to win the Regional Search for Outstanding Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) Program Implementers in Secondary Schools for School Year (SY) 2015-2016. The school thus earned the right to represent DepEd Caraga in the National Search which is slated in the months of August, September, and October of 2016.

The regional search was conducted pursuant to DepEd Memorandum No. 41 s. 2016 enjoining all secondary schools with established BKD Chapters to participate, in consonance with Regional Memorandum No. 136 s. 2016 advising the Schools Divisions Superintendents (SDS) to conduct such activity in their respective divisions.

The said competition aimed to strengthen the National Drug Education Program (NDEP) by increasing awareness and understanding among students, faculty, and school administrators in initiating active response toward a drug-free school, home, workplace, and community. The Search is also oriented toward identifying the best practices of each BKD Chapter to serve as models for other schools to implement.

Morever, the contest looked into the functionality of BKD programs, projects, and activities implemented in the schools and their impact on the local community. It also include the process of documentation, exposure to mass media, integration of BKD concepts in classroom instruction, interventions, capability building, and other creative measures.

Cantilan National High School of Surigao del Sur garnered second place. Third place belonged to Agusan National High School of Butuan City. DepEd Caraga regional office awarded plaques and certificates to the winners.
