DepEd-RO1 Employees Undergo First Aid Management Training

San Fernando City, La Union – To acquire knowledge and skills necessary in times of emergency and to learn how to sustain life until the arrival of medical help, the Department of Education Regional Office I (DepEd-RO1) underwent Basic Life Support and First Aid Management Training (BLSFAMT) at the Learning Resource Management and Development Center (LRMDC) on July 5 – 7, 2016.

More than 20 DepEd employees gained knowledge about the Principles of Emergency Care, Basic Life Support, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Rescue Breathing, Foreign Body Airway Obstruction Management, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Procedure, through the assistance given by health personnel of the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) and Department of Health (DOH) RO1 led by Ms. Ana Fe D. Peres, Senior Health Program Officer.
First Aid Management which included bandaging of burns and bleeding, splinting fractures, proper carrying and lifting of patients, and packing were also performed by the trainees in the return demonstration. They as well did some team building, bending exercises, and related group activities.

As way of assessing what the trainees had learned, a scenario of a vehicular accident was simulated. They demonstrated their learned skills in giving first aid on the seven victim-participants who fictitiously suffered from multiple injuries such as fractured arms and legs, wounded head, ears, breast, forehead, sprained ankle, contusion as well as abrasion.  They needed to be lifted as they cannot move; blood-like liquid was oozing from their bodies.

Regional Director, Dr. Alma Ruby C. Torio, in her message on the first day of the training, motivated the participants to be serious in the pursuit of the activity taking into account the worthiness of the undertaking.

Assistant Regional Director Bettina D. Aquino on the other hand, commended the participants for finishing the training and encouraged them to volunteer if the need to save life arises.
