Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA) Lady Eagles once again soared when they won against Bicol Regional Athletic Association (BRAA) during the 2018 Palarong Pambansa Basketball - Secondary Girls held at Caoayan covered court, Wednesday morning, April 18, Caoayan, Province of Ilocos Sur.

DAVRAA played sharp for the first three quarters to establish a 38-34 lead before slowing down in the final period, allowing the Bicol Region to outscore Davao Eagles, 49-46, in the final count.

The Davao Region shock-troopers worked on things needed to be done from the team’s sluggish start after which the Bicol Region charged from a double-digit deficit to surge ahead, 57-54, early in the fourth quarter.

And there’s no stopping DAVRAA from running away with the win especially as BRAA seemed to lose poise and composure in the battle.

“It takes huge defensive effort from us. It’s not easy guarding the opponents,” said the DAVRAA Team Captain Lee Dominique Sario in an interview after the game.

According to Davao’s Head Coach Claire Sosoban, they just put double-effort and executed game plans to outscore their opponents.

“The best defense is the best offense. I always tell them to relax and think. We employed man-to-man defense and we executed our game plan system offensively and defensively,” she said during the game.

Both teams struggled badly on offense in the first half, with BRAA banking on some energy and firepower provided by their reserves to take the half at 32-28.

“We observed that we are too small compared to our opponents. They have advantage on that but what sets us to taste victory is our heart on the game, our determination and trust with one another,” DAVRAA Coach Sososan added.

Sario, Kate Buenaventura and Rozie Amatong checked in earlier than usual, sparking decisive attacks that brought DAVRAA to their victory.

“We will not stop dreaming. This is not yet the end. Our journey to Palarong Pambansa will not end here. We will work hard so that we can represent Davao Region in the finals next year,” Team Captain Sario concluded.
