PASIG CITY, February 12, 2020 — In line with the latest advisory of DOH on public events and gatherings to prevent the spread of Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19), the Department of Education (DepEd) is continuing the suspension of all major national and regional activities of the Department, as stated in the DM No. 15, s. 2020.

We will keep everyone posted every Monday or when the need arises whether the suspension will be continued or lifted, depending on the development of the situation and upon the advice of DOH.

We hope for your understanding on this decision as we continue to support the overall effort of the Philippine government to combat this public health situation through our Task Force nCoV. We are complying with the DOH’s interim guidelines on COVID-19 response in schools and higher education institutions (DC No. 2020-0042). We have issued travel restrictions, safety precautions and protocols, and produced information and awareness materials to keep our schools, personnel, and learners COVID-free.

We reiterate to the public to comply with these preventive measures from DOH such as making handwashing a habit, covering one’s mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, avoiding contact with people who show signs of respiratory illness, drinking plenty of water and ensure proper cooking of food, and consulting a health facility if symptoms of cough and colds persist. Official collaterals for display in schools and offices containing these key reminders may be downloaded at https://www.deped.gov.ph/stopncov.

Stopping the spread of COVID-19 will require the cooperation of our school heads, teachers, parents, and learners. Together, let’s make a united stand in prioritizing the health and safety of our teachers, personnel, and our 27.2 million Filipino learners.
