ATTY. SUZETTE T. GANNABAN-MEDINA

Atty. Suzette T. Gannaban-Medina led the preparation of the Policy and Guidelines on Protecting Children in School from Abuse, Violence, Exploitation, Discrimination, and Other Forms of Abuse, otherwise known as the DepEd Child Protection Policy. She was a member of the Technical Working Group for the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Anti-Bullying Act. She also served as Child Protection Officer of Save the Children International.

She was a scholar of the 45th Annual Study Session in International and Comparative Law of Human Rights and Sports of the University of Strasbourg, France. She has also completed the Certificate Course on Children’s Rights conducted by the University of Geneva, Switzerland. She presented at the ASEAN Safe Schools Initiative Webinar on Child-Centered Risk Assessment in 2019 organized by the Asia Pacific Coalition for School Safety.

She is a member of the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP) and completed her training on Drug-Free Workplace in Thessaloniki, Greece. She participated in the ASEAN Conference on the Prevention and Response for the Misuse of Financial Service Providers in Child Sexual Exploitation in Bali, Indonesia and represented the Department in the first-ever Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children held in Bogota, Colombia.

She was the Officer-in-Charge, Director IV of the Bureau of Learner Support Services, Officer-in-Charge, Director IV of Legal Service of the DepEd Central Office, and Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Assistant Regional Director, DepEd MIMAROPA Region.

Her passion and leadership of the Learner Rights and Protection Office led to its institutionalization as a Division under the Bureau of Learner Support Services, the creation of plantilla positions in the Central and Regional Offices and the establishment of the first Contact Center Helpline for Learners, further strengthening DepEd’s commitment of ensuring a healthy learning environment and promoting the well-being of learners.

Atty. Suzette T. Gannaban-Medina is presently designated as the OIC-Director III of the Bureau of Learner Support Services and Learner Rights and Protection Office of the Department of Education.
