RD CRISTITO A. ECO

Cristito A. Eco is a committed and transformative education leader currently serving as the Regional Director of the Department of Education (DepEd) Western Visayas, known as “The Stronger Home of the Champions.” Anchored on public service, integrity, and excellence, he has consistently demonstrated visionary leadership in advancing improved quality, inclusive, and resilient basic education across the region.

A seasoned educator and administrator, he rose through the ranks of the Department of Education, acquiring extensive experience in classroom teaching, school leadership, division and regional governance. Prior to his current post, he served as School Head, Schools Division Superintendent, and Assistant Regional Director in various DepEd Regional Offices. His professional journey reflects a deep understanding of curriculum implementation, learner development, teacher professional growth, educational resource management, and governance.

As regional head, he champions strategic reforms aligned with DepEd’s national agenda, particularly in improving literacy and numeracy, modernizing assessment, strengthening school governance, and fostering safe and nurturing learning environments. He advocates evidence-based decision-making, data-driven planning, and results-oriented monitoring and evaluation to ensure effective program implementation. Among his key initiatives are Project Dunong, the School Management System, and the Environmental Conservation (ECo) Champions Program.

A collaborative leader, he strengthens partnerships with schools, local government units, stakeholders, and development partners, exemplified by Project Pagubay, a parent volunteer initiative supporting Kindergarten teachers.

Guided by service, professionalism, and excellence, he continues to steer DepEd Region VI toward greater educational excellence, resilience, and inclusivity. Among the various citations and awards he received was the 2017 Career Executive Service Board Gawad Presidential Award, recognizing his exemplary leadership and public service.
