Policies and Standards for Geodetic Engineering

  1. The set of policies and standards included in the Policies, Standards and Guidelines for Engineering Education approved by this Office, upon the recommendation of the Technical Panel for Engineering Education, Bureau of Higher Education, embodies the general principles and guidelines for the establishment of Bachelor of Science and Geodetic Engineering and Associate in Geodetic Engineering.
  2. In order to align the BS and/or Associate in Geodetic Engineering programs to the goals and mission of the institution and the nation and to make Geodetic Engineering Education responsive to the growing demands for manpower in the business and the industrial world, each engineering school offering the BS and/or Associate in Geodetic Engineering should have the built-in mechanism for continuous self-assessment of its instructional, research and extension service capabilities and program thrusts. It should have the necessary flexibility and adaptability to improve its external operation and curricular programs towards meeting the diverse needs of the students, community and the nation.
  3. This set of policies is a supplement to MECS Order No. 42, s. 1985 and DECS Order No. 76, s. 1989 entitled “Policies and Standards for Engineering Education” and “Revised Engineering Laboratory Requirements and its Implementing Guidelines” respectively. This covers the various aspects of Geodetic Engineering Education included the curricula and laboratory requirements.
  4. All concerned institutions are enjoined to review and revise their curricula to conform with the provisions and requirements set forth in this guideline.
  5. All institutions offering the degree of Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering, but not offering the Associate in Geodetic Engineering program, shall apply for the necessary permit to offer the Association in Geodetic Engineering program before they shall be authorized to issue the Certificate in Associate in Geodetic Engineering.
  6. The concerned institutions shall adopt the ladderized curriculum as prescribed under the guidelines. A Certificate in Associate in Geodetic Engineering shall be issued to qualified students upon satisfactory completion of all the requirements of the first three years of the Geodetic Engineering curriculum inclusive of the summer surveying subject. Likewise, a Diploma for the degree in B.S. Geodetic Engineering shall be issued to qualified students after fully completing the five-year course.
  7. Issuance of the Certificate in Associate in Geodetic Engineering shall be implemented effective SY 1992-93, three years after the implementation of the revised Geodetic Engineering Education.
  8. The revised or new curriculum for the Bachelor of Science and Associate in Geodetic Engineering programs shall be implemented according to the following schedule:

    Second Year 1991-92
    Third Year 1992-93
    Fourth Year 1993-94
    Fifth Year 1994-95
  9. Compliance with these rules and standards by all concerned in enjoined.
