Ilocos Region Students Take Part in Earth Day Youth Camp 2016

The Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O), Person With Disabilities (PWDs) and Indigenous Peoples’ (IP) students go GREEN this summer as they actively participated in the Earth Day Youth Camp 2016 last April 26-28, 2016 at Villa del Mar Resort, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.

Selected student campers together with their respective Science advisers and Science Education Program Supervisors were from 17 schools in Region 1 recommended by Department of Education (DepEd).

The students benefitted from this three-day activity as they were taught with organizing clean-up campaigns, art exhibits, tree-planting and recycling drives, concerts, social media campaigns and different activities which promotes protection and preservation of the environment.

In her closing remarks, DepEd Region 1 Regional Director Alma Ruby C. Torio stressed that “Let’s make every day as Earth Day. Let us not forget the simple gestures of Climate Change.”

The Earth Day Youth Camp is one of the highlights of the Earth Day Celebration spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in partnership with the DepEd.

The activity aims to promote awareness of climate change and Global Warming as well as to strengthen the implementation of the Youth for Environment in Schools (YES) Program of DENR and DepEd.
