Lal-lo National High tops 3rd Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon Congress

Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon radio patrollers of Lal-lo National High School bagged this year’s over-all Champion Title in the recently concluded 3rd BRN Congress held at New Rajah Soliman Hotel in Baguio City on May 17-18, 2016.

Coming close as 2nd, 3rd and 4th placers respectively are Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon patrollers of Cauayan City, Quirino and Tuguegarao City.

About a hundred BRN participants coming from schools division offices (SDOs) of Cauayan City, Quirino, Tuguegarao City and Cagayan competed in News writing and Broadcasting with Nutrition Plugs, Cheers and Yells and Teatro ng Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon attuned to the theme “ First 1000 days ni Baby pahalagahan para sa malusog na kinabukasan.”

Lectures on Tips on Radio Broadcasting was handled by Mr. Rogelio Matalang, Chairman –Philippine Federation of Rural Broadcasters, while Mr. Carlo Maceda, Director /Producer of ON CAM Productions Inc., delved on Animation: Messenger of the Future.

Nutrition Program Coordinator Rhodora G. Maestre of the National Nutrition Council of Region 2 (NCC- R2) said that the Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon program is the first unique information, advocacy and educational tool of the Council in the country where students at young age educate the public on nutrition and health.

“Through our school children,” Maestre emphasized, “the Council shall be able to give news flashes and updates on nutrition programs, activities and on-going initiatives.”

Maestre explained the lifetime permanent benefits of nurturing the baby’s nutritional needs from conception until two years old which constitutes the baby’s first 1000 days.

She said that there is power in the first 1000 days.” What you are now is what and how your family have nurtured you in your first 1000 days.”

Lifetime benefits include healthy growth and brain development, stronger immune system, higher IQ and better educational performance.

Maestre said that the radio nutrition program will also be established in other local government units (LGUs) in the next few months to maximize information dissemination in the promotion of good nutrition.

She lauded the continuing commitment and support to the advocacies of the National Nutrition Council of the Philippines given by the Department of Education Regional Office 2 family led by OIC- Regional Director Estela Leon- Cariño and the Balay ni IFAN Media Group through Mr. Ding Fugaban, a freelance broadcaster who is also the Station Manager of DZYT AM Radio in Tuguegarao City.
