DepED holds Parents-Teachers’ Association forum in Bicol
In order to discuss general concerns and issues surrounding the engagement of the Parents’-Teachers’ Association (PTA) in schools, the Department of Education (DepED) conducted the one-day PTA Forum in Legazpi City, Albay, October 26, 2017.
More than 50 key officers from the different Schools Division Offices (SDOs) of DepED Bicol, Federated PTAs in the Region together with their Schools Division Superintendents openly discussed and revisited the policies relative to the PTA engangement for parents to be well-informed of the guidelines on the PTA governance. The discussion also covered the legal basis of the PTA, parenting guide and lecture on the School Based Management program of the agency.
Regional Director Ramon Fiel Abcede underscores in his message the importance of a good parent-teacher partnership for the successful implementation of DepED’s program for the schoolchildren. He mentioned that the parents are one of DepED’s best partners in ensuring quality education and effective transfer of learning to the students.
“Parents remain our biggest ally in Education. Hence, we invest time, we invest money and we invest resources to ensure that our partnerships with you is maximized and that the fire is constantly burning. Let us always join hands for the benefit of our Bicolano children and this is for their bright future ahead.” says Abcede.
Undersecretary Tonesito Umali who was also present at the event personally expressed his appreciation to the members of the Federated PTAs in Region V who have engaged in the development programs of DepED. He then appealed for support from the participants of the event to continuously conduct programs that will ensure the welfare of the schoolchildren, especially on the issue bullying. Usec. Umali believes that parents play vital role in addressing the said problem.
“Alam po ninyo, kung meron man tayong programa na pwedeng gawin unahin na natin ito. You proactively engage in schools, do advocacy campaigns. Do projects that will try to prominently show the negative effects of bullying. At kayo po bilang magulang ay magagawa tungkol dito.” says Usec. Umali.
The coordinators of the said eent assured that all the inputs and the information relayed during the discussion will be considered for a policy review and amendments.
Meanwhile, DepED Region V, knowing the potential contribution of holding fora with the PTAs is considering to conduct similar annual event under the External Partnerships Program. (PAU/MKA)
