PASIG CITY, June 8, 2018 – The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), will present the Manila Concert Choir (MCC) in a concert in commemoration of the 120th Philippine Independence Day and in celebration of the MCC’s 67th anniversary this year. This will be held at the GSIS Theater in Pasay City on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.  Admission is free and open to the public.

Billed as “Lahi: Kultura, Musika, Atbp.,” the MCC will sing an all-Filipino repertoire of religious, nationalistic, and folk songs that reflect the Filipinos’ love of God, country, and culture. The MCC will showcase songs from great Filipino composers and arrangers in an evening of choral music.

Founded in 1951 by Dr. Lois Florendo Bello, a graduate of the Westminster College and a prominent authority on choral music and vocal teaching methods, the MCC has proven its mettle in the world of choral music for 67 years. The MCC held the distinction of being the first choral group appointed by the President of the Philippines as goodwill ambassadors to the Republic of China in 1961. Through the Cultural Diplomacy Program of the Philippine Embassy in Thailand, the MCC held two successful concerts in Bangkok in 2014. They also performed in three ASEAN meetings during the 2017 ASEAN Summits. Through the years, the choir rendered more than three hundred full-length free performances and held choral clinics in principal cities, small towns and barrios all over the Philippines.

The MCC is composed of 28 members from different field of endeavors: doctors, lawyers, teachers, choral directors, pastors, businessmen, engineers, accountants, housewives and students. The choir is under the leadership of DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones, and currently under the baton of Mr. Glen Cantada. Pianist Agape Manigsaca-Labuntog provides musical accompaniment to the choir.
