Legazpi City – Around 60 teacher-advisers for student organizations and youth formation coordinators in Bicol participated in the 1 st leg of the Regional Teacher Advisers Training Program (TATP) held February 8-12, 2021 at the Legazpi Garden Hotel, Legazpi City by the Department of Education Bicol (DepEd Bicol).

Spearheaded by the DepEd Bicol Education Support Services Division, the activity aims to deepen the participants understanding on the operations of the student organizations and to introduce the basic concepts of Child Rights and Child Participation. It also aims to provide a deeper understanding about various issues surrounding the school and the community.

The said training was graced by DepEd Bicol Director Gilbert Sadsad, ESSD Chief Ronald C. Asis, Curriculum and Learning Management Division Chief Francisco B. Bulalacao Jr. Project Development Officer Il Maria Cristina G. Baroso and Education Program Specialist Il Jeremy A. Atad.

In his message, RD Gilbert T. Sadsad emphasized the important role that teacher-advisers in ensuring the effective operations of the Student Governance which is mandated to support and promote the ideals, principles, thrust and objectives of the student body.

During the 5-day training, the participants actively participated on various workshops and activities along fostering student leadership. They were also taught basic skills in events management and on the delivery of online Psychological First Aid (PFA) and PFA through self-guided modules. The idea of introducing the concept of PFA to the participants is derived from one of DepEd’s goal which is to protect every leaner’s mental health and general welfare in this time of the COVID-19.

Meanwhile, one of the participants, Mr. Joseph Roland M. Nasol from Bicol Regional Science High School, expressed his gratitude to the organizers for the opportunity of being part of the said program.

“Ang training po na ito ay very informative- It exceeds my expectation kasi ang akala ko po ay more on making proposals, connected sa SSG or SPG. But it exceeds my expectations. It gave more light sa pagconduct ng PFA para at least matulungan po namin ang mga bata in a holistic way, hindi lang in managing the organization or in academic aspects.”, he said.

After the 1 st leg of the training, DepEd Bicol will also conduct the Regional Training on Student Leadership Development Program on Feb 15-19, 2021 and Regional Training on Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) on Feb 22-26, 2021.
