Changes in the Social Studies Program of the New Secondary Education Curriculum (NSEC)

1.   One of the policies of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports concerns the maintenance and sustenance of quality secondary education through continuous improvement in the curricular offerings. To do this, intensive participative-consultative conferences, workshops and discussion with parents, teacher, students, members of academe, business and religious group were conducted to solicit feedback, information, ideas and recommendations.
2.   Based on the consultations made, changes in the sequencing of areas in the Social Studies  (Araling Panlipunan) program are hereby adopted for implementation effective school year 1998-1999 for the incoming first year students. Social Studies shall now be taken as follows:
Level        Subject Nomenclature              Subject Description

First Year            Araling Panlipunan I          Kasaysayan at Pamahalaan ng Pilipinas
Second Year       Araling Panlipunan II         Kabihasnang Asyano
Third Year           Araling Panlipunan III        Kasaysayan ng Daigdig
Fourth Year        Aaraling Panlipunan IV       Ekonomiks

3.   The time allotment and the unit credits as well as the other features of the social studies program under the New Secondary Education Curriculum (NSEC) shall still be in force.
