Updated Guidelines on the Issuance of Certificates of Eligibility for Admission of Students to the College of Dentistry and Internship in Medical Technology

1.   Effective SY 1991-92, the following guidelines shall be observed in the issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility for Dentistry (CED), and Certificate for Medical Technology Internship (CMTI)
                Dentistry
             a.   Students seeking admission to the college of dentistry must have completed the Two-Year Pre-Dental Course as prescribed in DECS Order No. 15, s. 1989 or must have taken the subjects required in the pre-dental course to qualify for the issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility for Dentistry ( CED).
                b.   Graduates of the following courses are deemed qualified for admission to the college of dentistry and may be automatically issued the Certificate of Eligibility for Dentistry (CED) :
                                1.    B.S.  Medical Technology
                                2.    B.S.  Nursing
                                3.    B.S.  Physical Therapy
                                4.    B.S.  Pharmacy
                                5.    B.S.  Nutrition and Dietetics
                                6.    B.S.  Biology
                                7.    B.S.  Zoology
                                8.    B.S.  Botany
                                9.    B.S.  Public Health
                                10.   Doctor of Optometry
                c.   Students who have finished a four-year baccalaureate degree program and who desire to pursue the dental course as a second degree are exempted from taking Personal and Community Health, Land Reform and Taxation, New Constitution, Pilipino 1 & 2, and Rizal Course. These subjects should not be required in the processing of Form IX of candidates for graduation for the Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.D.M) for the purpose of the issuance of the Special Order (S.O.) for graduation.
                d.   A pre-dental graduate of the University of the Philippines whose curricular offerings differ from that of the Two-Year Pre-Dental Course prescribed in DECS Order No. 15, s. 1989, shall automatically be issued the required Certificate of Eligibility (CED).
                e.   Only the CED and academic requirements of the D.D.M. course should be evaluated for the purposes of issuance of S.O. for the course.
Medical Technology
                a.   The Certificate of Eligibility for Medical Technology Internship (CMTI) shall no longer be a pre-requisite for internship. A certification from the dean/registrar that the student had already finished all the required subjects prior to internship shall take its place.
                b.   Only students who have completed the first three (3) years of the medical technology course should be allowed to undergo internship. In no case shall taking of academic subjects simultaneously with internship be allowed or permitted. Violation of such rule would be sufficient ground for the Department of Education, Culture and Sports to revert the course recognition to permit status or phase out the course if under permit status.
2.   Strict compliance with the provisions of this Order is hereby enjoined.
