Postponement of 1999 Palarong Pambansa to Year 2000

1.   The 1999 Palarong Pambansa scheduled this May in Tubod, Lanao del Norte has been postponed to year 2000. The postponement is expected to result in a grandiose staging of Palarong Pambansa which will be dubbed as MILLENIUM PALARO, the first Palaro of His Excellency Joseph Estrada as President.

2.   The President has expressed his desire to inaugurate a completed sports complex in Tubod, Lanao del Norte before the formal start of the Millenium Palaro. The Sports Complex shall accommodate all sports events in the Palaro. Additional sports facilities shall be constructed in the province of Lanao del Norte and the President has committed to give financial support for the development of the sports complex.

3.   To ensure the success of the Millenium Palaro, the DECS Central Office, the host DECSRO-XII and the Division of Lanao del Norte shall repair and upgrade the identified eighteen (18) schools that will be used as billeting quarters of regional delegations and technical officials.

Specific improvements shall be the water facilities, lighting system, comfort rooms, ventilation and other sanitary facilities. Funding maybe sourced from School Building Funds.

4.   The BPESS shall also prepare and submit a proposal for the realignment of the 1999 MOOE allotment for Palaro. Further, the BPESS shall continue providing technical assistance to the host province in the preparation of playing venues, marketing and promotion, organization of national summer camp/competition, etc. in coordination with other pertinent agencies/organization.

5.   In the meantime, all preliminary sports meets such as school divisions and regional meets shall continue as scheduled.

6.   BPESS shall make arrangements with the different NSA’s, local government units, sports organizations and corporate sponsors to implement national competitions for the regional winners in elementary and secondary divisions as substitute to the Palarong Pambansa this summer. The activities will also ensure continuity of the school sports development program. In addition, conduct of the Summer Home and Away Games, dual meets, triangular meets between and among regions are also encouraged.
