Team Baguio reigns supreme in CARAA

Ifugao named most clean and green delegation

BAGUIO CITY – In a show of undeniable supremacy, Team Baguio amassed an outstanding 212 gold, 91 silver, and 79 bronze medals to reign anew in the recently concluded Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet held here last February 6 to 10.

The elementary players from the City of Pines raked in 88 gold, 35 silver, 30 bronze while their counterparts in the secondary level chipped in a 124-56-49 medal haul.

The City tankers harvested the heftiest with 69 gold medals from both the elementary and secondary levels. The City also showed strong performances in other individual events like gymnastics, archery, athletics, taekwondo, wrestling, and wushu.

Coming in second place is Benguet Province with a 43-93-87 overall finish. The province nabbed both the sepak takraw secondary and elementary championships as well as the top honors in volleyball elementary and secondary boys.

Securing its third spot is Ifugao Province with 20-34-59 followed closely by Mt. Province with 19-36-70 medal finish. The combined efforts of team Kalinga-Tabuk City managed a 17-27-44 fifth overall followed by Abra with 16-31-34 standing.

Apayao fell from number four last year down to the bottom with only an 8-22-40 medal finish.

The gold medalists in the week-long sports squabble will represent the region in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa slated April 10-18 in Legaspi City, Albay.

Meanwhile, Ifugao was named the Most Clean, Green, and Eco-friendly Delegation. Baguio SPED Center where the Ifugao delegation stayed for a week was named as the Most Clean, Green, and Eco-friendly Billeting School. The delegation and school both received trophies, certificates and cash prize of P 10,000 each.

Kalinga-Tabuk City, on the other hand, bagged the Most Disciplined Delegation plum and also received a trophy, certificate, and a cash prize of P 10,000.

Each delegation was required to plant 10 indigenous tree species within their billeting schools in accordance to the National Greening Program of the Government and to implement proper waste segregation and other clean and green efforts during their stay.

The special citations aimed to promote environmentally sound methods which maximizes the use of valuable resources and encourage conservation as well as instill among the athletes the values of discipline, responsibility, and environment consciousness other than the values inherent in sports activities.
