Grades 1-5 English teachers train for curriculum contextualization

Spearheaded by the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD), the seminar-workshop aimed to implement the curriculum in a manner relevant to local needs of Grades 1-5 learners under the K to 12 program.
CLMD Chief Dr. Isidro M. Biol, Jr. said that Grades 1-5 English teachers “must be able to use authentic learning materials to accommodate and respect cultural, linguistic and ethnic diversity.” He expected that the seminar-workshop would also enable the teachers to “enhance their knowledge, skills, and attitudes in using authentic materials in the context of learners’ lives.

Key topics included the Art of Questioning presented by EPS Ricky L. Pedralba of Surigao City as well as the discussion on Differentiated Instruction facilitated by EPS Ivy I. Naparan of Agusan del Sur.
Ms. Maria Lourie C. Victor, DepEd IPs EO consultant, discussed the policy updates and their implications in the contextualization process.
The rest of the activities focused on identifying the competencies that can be contextualized in Grades 1-5 learning materials (LMs), crafting and designing localized activities, critiquing and finalization of outputs, and preparations for the conduct of division seminars.
