PASIG CITY, September 5, 2019 – As the Department of Education (DepEd) ushers in basic education transformation in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the agency extols the indispensability of teachers in keeping the humanistic aspects of education through the celebration National Teachers’ Month (NTM), the National Teachers’ Day (NTD), and the World Teachers’ Day (WTD).

With the theme “Gurong Pilipino: Handa sa Makabagong Pagbabago,” this year’s celebration of NTM from September 5 to October 5, and of NTD and WTD on October 5, is set to kick off on September 9 at the Initao National Comprehensive High School in Misamis Oriental.

“The NTM is just one way to express gratitude for the hard work of our teachers in helping shape the future of Filipino learners. In this digital age, we put a premium on the crucial role of teachers as guides, managers, and listeners amid technological innovations and other emerging trends in education,” Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones stated.

During the month-long celebration, all public and private schools, schools district offices, schools division offices, and regional offices are enjoined to follow the synchronized programs, projects, and activities. Schools are likewise encouraged to conduct special activities, such as on-the-spot poster making, essay writing, thank you card design, and cultural performances, to enable learners to express gratitude for their teachers.

On October 5, school-based celebrations, including the recitation of A Prayer for Teachers shall be observed. The Central Office shall conduct the NTD and the WTD celebrations through a whole-day program at the Limketkai Event Center in Cagayan de Oro City.

The celebration is made possible in cooperation with the National Teachers’ Day Coordinating Council (NTDCC), the National Teachers’ Month Coordinating Council (NTMCC), and education stakeholders and partners who believes in the importance of teachers in developing globally minded citizens, nurturing families, strengthening communities, and building the nation.
