PASIG CITY, October 7, 2019 – The Department of Education (DepEd) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with China Bank Savings last October 4 on the donation of over a million-peso worth of major prizes and freebies for 4,500 public school teachers present during the World Teachers’ Day (WTD) and National Teachers’ Day (NTD) national celebration at Limketkai Center Atrium, Cagayan De Oro City.

“We are making history. This is the first time that after years of celebrating World Teachers’ Day and National Teachers’ Day, private partners, through the efforts of DepEd External Partnership Service, are going to give away major prizes directly to the teachers,” said Undersecretary for Legislative Affairs, External Partnerships and Project Management Service, Tonisito Umali, Esq.

Umali added that the partnership “is consistent with the WTD and NTD celebrations’ objectives of generating widespread support and assistance for teachers, and to express gratitude for the positive influences of teachers on Filipino learners.”

The Undersecretary likewise recognized the efforts of DepEd Region X Director Arturo Bayocot for making it possible.

In response, Bayocot said: “Teachers’ Day is one of the most important celebrations in the world. The existence of the teacher is non-negotiable. We will not be here without teachers.”

China Bank Savings has been one of the leading partners of the Department.

“Our bank is making this substantial donation to the event with the greater benefit of the delegates [of this year’s event]. Our support for the National Teachers’ Day is for our teachers who deserve encouragement, reward, and recognition to the community with the sons and daughters they help to mold into bright citizens of the country,” said Neil Jumawan, vice president of China Bank Savings’ Automatic Payroll Deduction (APD) Lending Group.

Major prizes, courtesy of China Bank Savings and other sponsors and partners, raffled off during the national celebration were one Red Toyota WIGO, three motorcycles, 35 laptops, eight televisions, five printers, four washing machines, three refrigerators, five cellphones, cash gifts worth P20,000 and P10,000 and other giveaways.
