PASIG CITY, October 8, 2019 – Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones commended the awardees and partners of the Ambassador Antonio L. Cabangon Chua Gintong Parangal Para sa Edukasyon (Guro at Pamumuno) during the awarding rites on October 3 at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan, DepEd Central Office in Pasig City.

The Fortune Life Insurance Co. Inc., in partnership with DepEd and the Marylindbert International, awarded the Ambassador Antonio L. Cabangon Chua Gintong Parangal Para sa Edukasyon (Guro at Pamumuno) to educators for their dedicated service, hard work, discipline, effective leadership, and excellence in the teaching profession.

Secretary Briones lauded all the awardees for their contributions in discovering, creating, and innovating ways to make life better for the learners and the communities.

She also expressed her gratitude to the officials and representatives of Fortune Life and Marylindbert for constantly reminding the Department about the importance of hard work and discipline.

“Thank you for reminding us [of] the traditional, the good values – kasi sabi nga ngayon ay modern na tayo, 21st century na tayo, pero huwag nating kalimutan na at the end of the day, what we really need is hard work and discipline,” Briones underscored.

Awardees
In the Guro category, the awardees were chosen from 3,000 entries from all regions in the country. They are teachers, principals, and supervisors who have shown commendable efforts towards the inculcation of the values of hard work and discipline in their field.

The awardees for the Guro category were Dr. Cecilia Custodio (Education Program Supervisor, Division of Bulacan); Dr. Ernesto Dizon (Principal IV, Prenza National High School, Division of Bulacan); Markson Mejia (Teacher III, Celestino G. Tabuena Memorial National High School, Division of Sorsogon City); Ronaldo Reyes (Education Program Supervisor, Division of Tabaco City); and Joenary Silao (Master Teacher II, Norala Elementary Central School, Division of South Cotabato).

The honorable mention awardees in the same category were Dr. Guillermo Flores (PSDS, Division of Bulacan); John Patrick Lazaro (Teacher III, Dolores National High School, Division of Eastern Samar); and Gabriel Vargas II (Master Teacher I, Tinajeros National High School, Division of Malabon City).

Awardees in the Pamumuno category were Division Administrators, Schools Division Superintendents (SDS), and Assistant Schools Division Superintendents (ASDS) who demonstrated extraordinary hard work and discipline in leading their respective divisions and championing the virtues of education.

They were Dr. Jenilyn Rose Corpuz, CESO VI (SDS, Division of Manila); Dr. Melody Cruz (OIC SDS, Division of Pasay City); Dr. Bianito Dagatan CESO V (SDS, Division of Cebu City); Dr. Imelda Sabornido (SDS, Division of Bayugan – CARAGA); and Dr. Felix Romy Triambulo, CESO VI (SDS, Division of Zamboanga City).

Each awardee received scholarship grant, cash prize, trophy, and certificate of recognition.

Also present in the ceremony were Pasig City Representative Roman Romulo, Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio, regional directors, schools division superintendents, and assistant superintendents, Fortune Life C., Inc President and Chief Executive Officer Arnold Cabangon, Marylindbert International President and Chief Executive Officer Erlinda Legaspi, and other DepEd   officials and representatives.
