December 05, 2022 – Aligned with the continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS), the Department of Education (DepEd) conducted the Strand Management Review on Organization and Workforce Capacity last November 4 to 24, 2022.

The Management Review (MR) is a preliminary activity to the reengineering of the Department which also aims to ensure the alignment of mandates, processes, and systems to the Basic Education Development Plan 2030 (BEDP 2030).

Undersecretary for Human Resource and Organizational Development, NEAP, and TEC Gloria Jumamil-Mercado stated that Education Chief Sara Z. Duterte ordered the conduct of the MR to redevelop the management in the Central Office to further help the school-level governance in DepEd.

“The purpose of the reengineering was not only to harmonize and improve the services at the Central Office but also to align the functions per governance level that will eventually upgrade the quality of basic education services of DepEd, especially at the school level,” Usec. Jumamil-Mercado noted during her presentation at the 2022 National Planning Conference.

During the MR, the status of actions from the previous management committee meeting, customer satisfaction and feedback, and the Programs, Activities, and Projects, among others, were discussed.

Usec. Jumamil-Mercado also noted that the conduct of the management review was crucial in the organizational structure and office functions of each DepEd strand and office under the new administration.

Currently, the Department has eight strands which include the Office of the Chief of Staff, Administration, Finance, Curriculum and Instruction, Governance and Field Operations, Human Resources and Organizational Development, Legal Affairs, and Legislative Affairs and Partnerships.

The MR was attended by respective Undersecretaries, Assistant Secretaries, and Bureau and Service Directors or Heads of Offices.
