October 30, 2023 – The Department of Education (DepEd) reiterated that teachers who would be involved in work and non-work-related accidents to file a claim against their Government Service Insurance System (GSIS)-issued Personal Accident Insurance (GPAI) policy.

Under the GPAI, personnel can claim for accidental death or dismemberment of up to Php100,000.00. It also has a medical reimbursement feature for accident-related injuries of up to Php30,000.00

The said policy includes injuries sustained in accidents encountered by covered DepEd personnel both locally and internationally, whether work-related or not.

Furthermore, 100% of the principal sum will be received by the beneficiaries of the DepEd personnel in case of unprovoked murder or assault.

A formal report should include the complete contact details of the claimant/victim, including email address, landline or phone number, contact person, and mailing address, which could be sent to nonmotorclaims@gsis.gov.ph

The claim should be filed within 60 days of the date of the accident. The policy effectivity started on October 5, 2023.

Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines and Secretary of Education Sara Z. Duterte, in her message during the World Teachers’ Day celebration, noted that this is one of the agency’s initiatives “to show commitment of taking good care of you [teachers].”
