May 11, 2021 – To highlight the role of science and research in addressing present global challenges and issues, the Department of Education (DepEd) will conduct a virtual National Science and Technology Fair (NSTF) for School Year 2020-2021.

Carrying the theme, “Agham, Pananaliksik, at Teknolohiya: Kabalikat sa Matatag at Maunlad na Pamayanan,” the NSTF 2021 aims to showcase learners’ resiliency, innovation, and creativity amidst global crisis through virtual Science fair and competitions.

“We cannot talk about quality education without also teaching or nurturing our learners in the intricacies of technology and communication, creativeness, and invention,” Education Chief Leonor Magtolis Briones noted, citing the importance of conducting NSTF this school year.

The 2021 NSTF also looks to showcase the competence and creativity of learners in providing solutions to attain sustainable development.

These competitions are the (1) Siyensikula – a production of original video competition focusing on a science concept and (2) #SciTokperiments – A Tiktok Science Experiment Competition.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Curriculum and Development-Curriculum Standards Development Division said in a statement that the entries and results of the competitions will give a snapshot of what learners have been doing during this time and what they are actually learning.

Aside from the various competitions, the virtual NSTF will banner several activities such as virtual exhibits, virtual fora, workshops, career talks, technology and project launching, and film showing.

Each region is encouraged to join each competition following its respective guidelines.

School and division level screening will be on May 24 – June 11, 2021, while the Regional Level Science and Technology Fair will start on June 21.
