Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Blue Barons drew their first blood over the Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association (CAVRAA) Hawks in a sweeping 25-14, 25-14 victory during the opening games of 2019 Palarong Pambansa Volleyball–Girls at the UP Sports Gymnasium in Davao City, April 29.

Shane Carmona’s massive point production and spiking prowess delivered the goods to finish the match in straight sets for the much hungrier Western Visayas squad.

The Blue Barons manipulated the opening salvo as spikers Carmona, Bertolano, and Deloria harnessed bombing spikes up to monstrous blocks to contain the Hawks in a harpy Visayan rally.

Middle Blocker Joan Marie Monares delivered her convincing quick attack followed by her service ace to seal a dominating 25-14 first set.

Hawks, however, stood tall on the second set as they stayed intact at 8-5.

Both team went on their furious states but it was the Blue Barons’ firepower that ended the game at 25-14 against the error-prone Cagayan Valley team.

“I am happy for the outcome of our game. And we need to improve our defense pattern, especially when it comes to blocking for our next game against the taller Central Visayas squad,” Carmona, Blue Baron’s team captain, said after the game.
